Negative reinforcement is a, "psychological reinforcement by the removal of an unpleasant stimulus when a desired response occurs" (Negative Reinforcement, n.d.).
Similar to the positive reinforcement system, the negative reinforcement system also uses the reward system. In this, a person is rewarded for the wanted behaviour by having something unpleasant removed. The removal of this is the reward. An example of this in a business world would be a person may find it irritating and undesirable to be monitored closely. When this person begins doing their job to the standard expected of them, the monitoring will ease back. The removal of this would be the reward for doing their job. Basically, when a person's behaviour leads to the removal of something that was unpleasant to that person then negative reinforcement is occurring. The stimulus could be anything depending on the individual and their likes and dislikes.
